Canopy and Tidyflow both serve accounting firms, but they take fundamentally different approaches. Canopy is a higher-tier platform with packaged plans starting at $74/user/month plus paid add-ons (Tax Resolution, Transcripts & Notices, Smart Intake credits). Tidyflow is practice management for growing accounting firms that want to run client work in one place. Proposals, e-signatures, invoicing, client requests and Tidyflow Agent are all in the $39/user/month Core plan, with no paid add-ons.

Note on Canopy pricing: Canopy moved away from per-module pricing in 2025. Older comparisons that describe “$40/module” reflect the legacy model and no longer apply.

Here’s how they compare.

Pricing

Tidyflow:

  • Core: $39/user/month ($29 billed annually)
  • Pro: $69/user/month ($55 billed annually)
  • Enterprise: from $89/user
  • No paid add-ons. Proposals, e-signatures, invoicing and Tidyflow Agent on every tier.

Canopy (annual billing):

  • Standard: $74/user/month. CRM, document management + eSign, client portal, workflow + tasks, invoicing + payments, basic reporting
  • Plus: $109/user/month (most popular). Adds automated/recurring workflows, custom reporting, advanced filters
  • Premium: $149/user/month. Adds capacity planning forecasting, deep reporting, advanced billing
  • Tax Resolution: +$50/user/month (add-on, not in any tier)
  • Transcripts & Notices: +$50/user/month (add-on)
  • Smart Intake AI: $11 per credit per client
  • KBA on e-signatures: $1.25 per credit
  • 15-day free trial

Compare the required plan: Tidyflow Core covers jobs, requests, organizer templates, billing and standalone signatures. Pro adds conditional questions, document approvals, capacity planning and advanced reports. Include only the Canopy services your firm actually needs, then compare the complete annual cost. Tidyflow does not replace Canopy’s IRS tax-resolution tools.

Where Canopy Is Stronger

Tax Resolution and IRS Workflow

Canopy is the strongest practice-management platform for firms doing high-volume IRS work. The Tax Resolution and Transcripts & Notices add-ons together cost $100/user/month on top of the base tier, but for tax-resolution practices that revenue justifies the cost easily. Canopy pulls 20 years of IRS transcripts with one click once Form 2848 is on file, schedules automated transcript pulls, and updates notice-response templates annually.

AI Investment

Canopy raised $70M Series C in April 2025 and has shipped Coworker (autonomous AI execution, in beta), Notetaker (AI meeting transcripts), and Smart Intake (AI document requests with auto-classification) in 2026. Coworker, document renaming and smart intake are included in the tiers; Tax Workflow Automation, Close Automation and Tax Resolution are paid add-ons. For firms that want AI-forward tooling, Canopy’s surface area is the broadest in this category. Tidyflow Agent is included on every plan, but Canopy’s tax-specific automations go further.

Tax Resolution

Canopy is one of the few practice management tools with built-in tax resolution features — IRS transcript pulls, resolution case management, and compliance tracking. If your firm does tax resolution work, Canopy is uniquely positioned.

Document Management

Canopy’s document management module is robust — OCR, smart folders, detailed tagging, and a strong search function. For firms that handle high volumes of documents, Canopy’s document management is more feature-rich than most competitors.

Integration Ecosystem

Canopy connects with a wider range of third-party tools, including tax software and specialized accounting tools. If your firm relies on a complex tech stack, Canopy’s integrations may cover more of your needs.

Where Tidyflow Is Stronger

Pricing Simplicity

Tidyflow publishes Core and Pro inclusions on its pricing page. For five users billed annually, Core is $1,740/year and Pro is $3,300/year. Choose Pro for the approval, conditional-intake and capacity workflow described here. Compare that with a Canopy quote for the same users and relevant services, rather than assuming every firm buys Tax Resolution or Smart Intake credits.

Client Requests with Auto-Reminders

Tidyflow includes ready-made US organizers for 1040, 1120-S, 1065, 1120 and 1041, with previous Tidyflow answers available for reuse. Clients provide answers and uploads together and can mark a document for later delivery. Reminders include outstanding and deferred items; after ten unanswered rounds, the firm is notified to take over. Pro adds conditional questions and document approvals, including an invoice-linked payment requirement with connected online payments.

Bundled Pricing vs Add-Ons

Tidyflow’s $39/user/month Core plan has no paid add-ons. Canopy’s Standard tier is $74/user/month, and Tax Resolution and Transcripts & Notices are paid add-ons at $50/user/month each. Smart Intake is credit-based per client. Compare Core for the standard client-work process and Pro when you need conditional intake, approvals, advanced reporting or capacity planning.

Ease of Setup

Tidyflow is designed to be up and running quickly. The all-in-one approach means there’s no module configuration or integration between separate components — everything works together from the start.

Canopy’s broader feature set requires more setup decisions and configuration, particularly when integrating Tax Resolution workflows or configuring Smart Intake AI.

Capacity Planning

Tidyflow Pro’s capacity planning dashboard shows team workload visually: who’s overloaded, who has room. Canopy gates capacity forecasting to its Premium tier.

Tidyflow Agent

Tidyflow Agent is included on every plan: an AI teammate you can assign a Job to or @mention in a comment, plus connectors so Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP tools can work inside your workspace. Sensitive actions wait for a human approval card, and agents never email clients directly. Canopy includes Coworker, but its tax workflow, close and tax resolution automations are paid add-ons.

Who Should Choose Canopy?

Canopy is the better choice if:

  • Your firm does tax resolution work
  • You want to pick and choose specific features rather than paying for everything
  • Its specific document or tax-resolution workflow performs better in your trial; compare it with Tidyflow’s client folders, audit trail and Smart Classification
  • You’re already using some modules and are expanding incrementally
  • You need deep integrations with US-focused tax software

Who Should Choose Tidyflow?

Tidyflow is the better choice if:

  • You want one plan with no module math: proposals, e-signatures, invoicing and client requests are in the price
  • You’re a growing accounting firm that needs serious practice management without enterprise setup
  • Client document collection is your biggest pain point
  • You want an AI teammate you can delegate Jobs to, included in the price rather than sold as an add-on
  • You want bundled pricing without paid add-ons (Canopy charges separately for Tax Resolution and Transcripts & Notices)
  • You want to be set up and running in a day, not a week

The Bottom Line

Start with the work you need to run: intake, preparation handoffs, client approval, signatures and payment. Tidyflow connects those steps across Core and Pro, with an AI teammate and native billing. Canopy’s tax-resolution tools deserve separate consideration if IRS collections are a substantial part of your practice.

Run the same client scenario in both products and confirm the required plan, add-ons and payment term. The useful comparison is whether your team can finish that work with less chasing and fewer handoffs.
