TaxDome and Canopy are both all-in-one practice management platforms with a client portal, a client app rated 4.9 on the App Store and unlimited e-signatures. TaxDome is best suited to tax-focused firms that are happy to pay a year upfront, priced by client count rather than team size. Canopy is best suited to firms that want monthly billing or do IRS resolution work, which its Tax Resolution add-on covers in depth. TaxDome has one plan priced by active clients, from $1,500 a year for up to 150 clients with 20 seats included; Canopy Standard is $74 per user a month billed annually, or $93 monthly.
We checked every price and feature below on each company’s own website on 24 September 2026, and TaxDome’s pricing again on 3 November 2026. The sources are at the end. We make Tidyflow, which is covered separately after the comparison.

TaxDome vs Canopy: pricing (2026)
TaxDome, one plan priced by active clients, billed annually and paid upfront (checked November 2026):
- The minimum is 150 active clients for $1,500 a year, and it applies even with fewer than 150 clients
- Each client beyond 150 is priced in volume bands, from $15 down to $5. TaxDome’s examples: 400 active clients cost $4,125 a year, 1,000 cost $9,000 and 3,000 cost $16,500
- An active client is any client with activity in the past 12 months, such as logging in, uploading, messaging or receiving an invoice. Each client account counts separately
- 20 seats are included, with no per-seat fees. More than 20 seats or 3,000 clients needs custom pricing
- There is no monthly billing and no multi-year plan
- Add-ons: AI $200 a month, Managed Client Care $100 a month, premium support $249 a month, and a white-labeled mobile app on quote
- Existing customers keep their current plan until their first renewal on or after 1 January. If you plan to move before then, the TaxDome migration checklist lists every export to take with you
Canopy, per user per month (checked September 2026):
- Standard: $74 billed annually, or $93 billed monthly
- Plus: $109 billed annually, or $136 billed monthly
- Premium: $149 billed annually, or $186 billed monthly, still marked coming soon
- Enterprise: custom, aimed at firms of around 200 people
- Add-ons: Tax Resolution $50 per user a month; Tax Workflow Automation from $34 per client; Close Automation $10 per connected client a month, with the first 5 included
TaxDome vs Canopy: what a 5-person firm pays
List prices for year one, before add-ons, credits and onboarding. Canopy charges per user. TaxDome charges by active clients, so its price for a 5-person firm depends on how many clients the firm serves, and stays the same for any team of up to 20.
| Plan | Year one |
|---|---|
| TaxDome, up to 150 active clients | $1,500, paid upfront |
| TaxDome, 400 active clients | $4,125, paid upfront |
| TaxDome, 1,000 active clients | $9,000, paid upfront |
| Canopy Standard, annual billing | $4,440 ($74 × 5 × 12) |
| Canopy Standard, monthly billing | $5,580 ($93 × 5 × 12) |
| Canopy Plus, annual billing | $6,540 ($109 × 5 × 12) |
| Canopy Standard + Tax Resolution, annual billing | $7,440 ($4,440 + $50 × 5 × 12) |
TaxDome vs Canopy: costs and terms to check
TaxDome
- The plan is paid a year upfront, and TaxDome’s refund policy says it doesn’t give refunds or credits.
- The price follows your active client count, not your team size. A client counts if they logged in, uploaded, messaged or received an invoice in the past 12 months, and each client account counts separately.
- 20 seats are included. More than 20 seats, or more than 3,000 clients, needs a custom quote.
- AI is a $200-a-month add-on. A white-labeled mobile app is priced on quote. Self-serve onboarding is free, and paid onboarding starts at $999.
Canopy
- Tax Resolution is a $50 per user a month add-on, and Tax Workflow Automation and Close Automation are priced per client.
- Smart Intake and Engagements (proposals and engagement letters) use per-client credits after 5 free credits of each.
- Identity checks on e-signatures cost $1.25 per signer, with no volume discount.
- Monthly billing costs about 25% more than annual, and Premium is listed but still marked coming soon.
TaxDome vs Canopy: client portal and app
Both give clients a branded portal and a mobile app where they can upload documents, sign and pay.
- Adoption: both client apps are rated 4.9 on the US App Store, TaxDome’s from 40,922 ratings and Canopy’s from 23,818.
- Canopy: clients can log in to the app with a fingerprint or face, or open a single task through a secure link without logging in, and AI places signature fields automatically.
- TaxDome: the Managed Client Care add-on, at $100 a month, has TaxDome’s support team answer your clients’ questions. TaxDome offers a custom firm URL and branded emails, and a white-labeled mobile app is priced on quote.
TaxDome vs Canopy: tax season and IRS transcripts
- Client intake: TaxDome uses intake forms and organizers in its portal. Canopy’s Smart Intake builds AI questionnaires and document checklists, paid per client with credits.
- IRS transcripts: TaxDome’s plan includes an IRS integration that downloads transcripts to client accounts.
- Tax resolution: Canopy’s Tax Resolution add-on pulls up to 20 years of IRS transcripts, gives step-by-step fixes for IRS notices, fills more than 200 federal and state forms and tracks every case in one place.
TaxDome vs Canopy: AI features in 2026
- TaxDome: AI is a $200-a-month add-on covering document organization, AI tax return delivery, and MCP and API access. TaxDome has also announced its Atlas agent.
- Canopy: every plan includes Canopy’s core AI. Canopy says its Coworker agent is invitation-only for now, Notetaker turns meetings into summaries and tasks, and Smart Intake drafts questionnaires.
When to choose TaxDome
- You’re a tax-focused firm and want clients working in one portal and app
- You want proposals, e-signatures and intake included in the plan, without per-client credits
- You need IRS transcript downloads but not a full resolution toolkit
- Your team is large relative to your client count, since TaxDome charges by active clients rather than seats
- You’re comfortable paying a year upfront
When to choose Canopy
- IRS notices, collections or resolution are a regular part of your work
- You want to pay monthly
- You want AI tools such as Coworker and Notetaker now
- You’re happy to pay for add-ons and credits as you use them
Questions to ask on your demo
Both sell through a demo, and Canopy sets up trials through its sales team. Worth asking:
- TaxDome: How many of our clients will count as active? What happens if we need to leave early? Which add-ons would we need, and what does the white-labeled app cost?
- Canopy: Which add-ons and how many Smart Intake and Engagement credits would our firm use? Is this quote for monthly or annual billing? When will Premium be available?
